About

With an aim of improving its services for the homeless community, The Hutt Street Centre underwent a comprehensive interior refurbishment and new entry structure.

SMFA were engaged to undertake the design and documentation of the interior refurbishment, aiming to enhance the functionality and flow of the building. The upgrades were intended to create better spaces for both clients and staff, ensuring a more efficient and comfortable environment for all. Additionally, a new entry structure was introduced to improve the centre’s street presence and establish a distinct and welcoming entrance to the building.

The modern design of the new entry structure complements the existing architectural elements along Hutt Street, including the nearby Staff Administration Building and Local Heritage Place. By incorporating the gable roof forms prevalent in the area, the centre’s new entry structure blends with its surroundings with a contemporary take.

The upgrades represent a significant step forward in the ongoing efforts of The Hutt Street Centre to provide crucial support and resources to the homeless population. With improved facilities and an enhanced street presence, the redeveloped centre provides a recognisable, comfortable refuge to those in need, and is better equipped to provide essential support and assistance to those experiencing homelessness.

SMFA are proud to have played a role in assisting the Hutt Street Centre to fulfill its mission of helping thousands of individuals each year, fostering dignity and empowerment for those in need.
