The completion of the Largs Bay Pier Amenities upgrade was a collaborative effort between SMFA, the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, and Beek Build.
This $1.1 million project demonstrates our commitment to creating modern, inclusive, and accessible spaces while honouring the unique cultural and historical character of Largs Bay.
The upgraded facilities now include a state-of-the-art Changing Places area, ensuring access for individuals with high support needs, and all-gender toilets that promote inclusivity for all beachgoers. Designed with the user experience in mind, these amenities meet contemporary accessibility standards while providing a welcoming environment for locals and visitors alike.
A key aspect of the project is the preservation of the iconic mural by Kaz Pedersen and Helen Kavanagh. Recognising its cultural significance, extensive community engagement conducted by the City of Port Adelaide Enfield revealed the importance of safeguarding this beloved artwork. Using advanced digital technology, we worked with local artists to scan and reproduce the mural before the original structure’s demolition, ensuring its cherished presence remains an integral part of the new design.
The architecture of the upgraded amenities complements Largs Bay’s heritage and natural beach setting, seamlessly blending modern functionality with a respect for history and culture.
