About

Forming Stage 1 of Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic School’s masterplan, the works include the redevelopment of the school’s junior primary classrooms, amenities, and play space, to support the school’s growing population and modern teaching and learning practices.

The new General Learning Area (GLA) building for Reception and Year 1 students is complete with six GLAs, withdrawal/quiet rooms, a common breakout space, amenities, and covered outdoor learning area. Classrooms are configured in pairs and interconnected to allow collaboration and flexible learning, each with access to the common breakout space which offer additional teaching zones and opportunity for group and independent learning.

The new façade to Victoria Road functions as both a new interface to the school featuring elements of the school’s logo, presenting a clear identity to its main frontage, and through considered construction, acts as an acoustic barrier sheltering the learning areas from the road noise. The split roof form allowed each classroom access to natural light through high-level clerestory windows, without compromising the acoustic performance of the building.

The interior features playful use of colour, balancing the bright school colours with warm timber tones and natural textures. Feature ceilings, joinery and colours are used to define different zones within the breakout space which include two additional teaching spaces equipped with AV equipment, a “green screen” wall, and a fully openable wall out to the covered outdoor learning area which accommodates specialist curriculum.

The development enhances the school’s identity and offers students and teachers a flexible, adaptable and engaging space to support the modern curriculum and diverse needs of its student population. Works have also commenced on Stage 2 of the Masterplan.
