About

The Sir William Goodman Bridge has significant historical and community importance, and is integrated strongly in the existing cycle and pedestrian network along the River Torrens in Adelaide.

SMFA played a key role in conserving and enhancing the State Heritage listed bridge which had been declared unsafe and blocked from public access.

Existing balustrade posts were repaired off site and reinstated with new rails and handrails installed to the original detail. New galvanised balustrade with inset lighting was introduced as well as light poles that coincided with the supports. The original tram bed was filled with a new non-slip concrete surface, with pavers containing light inserts inset to represent the original location of the tram tracks.
